Camping Tips
Tuesday June 6, 2006
During the summer, campgrounds are busy. Where possible, a campground reservation can guarantee your campsite. But do you know what questions to ask when making them? Nobody likes surprises when they arrive at the campground, and nobody makes reservations with the intention of cancelling them, however sometimes unforeseen things happen. When making a campground reservation, consider the following:
- Make reservations as far in advance as possible.
- Make sure you understand the cancellation policy.
- Before getting off the phone, finalize a rate and confirm what that rate includes.
- If you will be arriving late, ask if they have any late arrival arrangements.
- If applicable, ask if there are any special deals for seniors.
- If you've been there before and like a particular site, ask if you can reserve a specific campsite.
- If a cancellation would cause you to lose a deposit, see if you can change your camping trip to another date.
- When making online reservations, make sure to print a copy of any confirmation page or save any confirmation email. Take a copy of this with you when checking in.

I’ve made reservations by phone to some parks in N. Calif. only to be told by the people at the gates that they don’t honor res. by phone. What gives I asked, I was told it was first come first served. So why res. by phone?????
