Plants to Avoid at the Campground - Various plants in different parts of the country may pose problems for campers. Poisonous plants include poison ivy, oak, and sumac. Contact with the sap of these plants may cause an uncomfortable skin rash, so campers need to learn how to identify and avoid these plants. Cacti can poke or tear equipment, so extra precaution needs to be taken when preparing your campsite. Nettles are another plant that cause intense discomfort. They have prickly little hairs that sting and itch. Sandburs are ground-hugging plants that have little burrs that stick in your feet (and your pets), and are quite painful.
