Outdoor Volunteer Opportunities

Tuesday April 3, 2007
Are you fit as a fiddle? Are you young and adventurous, but you don’t know what you’re going to do this summer? Consider spending your time as an outdoor volunteer. There are thousands of opportunities all across the country waiting for young men and women who are willing to devote some free time in order to be in the great outdoors. Volunteering could be a once in a life time experience. Here's the latest outdoor volunteer opportunity added to the site:

American Hiking Society logoVolunteer Vacations - The American Hiking Society is in its 27th year of the volunteer trail building program. Volunteers work in beautiful backcountry locations doing cabin, trail and shelter maintenance. The cost is $130 ($100 for AHS members). A typical 1-week trip usually includes airport pickup, tent camping locations and meals. You may or may not need your own tent, and longer trips are available. Check the AHS site for available trip descriptions and dates.

Elsewhere on About: - Lois Friedland, About's Adventure Travel guide, describes sources for VolunTourism. Her article outlines companies that arrange "trips with volunteer components."
