What campground amenity is most important to you?

Friday January 4, 2008
Camping is an art, and there is no wrong way to camp. However, we all have our wants and needs, and campgrounds try to satisfy those by supplying amenities to enhance our visit. Some amenities we could do without, while others may better serve us. I know there have been times when I was camping that different amenities offered by a campground have been life savers. My number one pick is at the top of the list even if it's as simple as the one pictured at the right.

What campground amenity is most important to you?
1.) clean restrooms
2.) electric / water hookups
3.) grocery store / ice
4.) handicap access
5.) hot showers
6.) kids playground
7.) picnic table / fire ring
8.) rec-room
9.) swimming pool
10.) Wi-Fi

I go camping to enjoy nature, not to listen to someone else’s kids, dogs, or (especially) radios. My number one need is QUIET!

Well Mary not everyone is an old retired fossiled up fliver with a gazillion dollars and has nothing better to do than gripe about noise. Camping is an event ENJOYED BY THE WHOLE FAMILY!!!! And today a FAMILY usually has kids. With gas at $3 most families cant afford anything other than camping anymore. I WILL TAKE MY KIDS CAMPING and if there usual kid noise upsets you, then take your $1,000,000 custom bus and drive it straight to HE## !!!!

As a camper with 2 children, bless their high volume wee hearts, I like a campground with a family friendly atmosphere. I don’t like to be stuck near folk who get hammered and whoop it up until all hours. Truthfully, in a campground with lots of daytime active kids, you tend to get a good nights sleep unless there is a fussy baby near by. Thanks goodness for earplugs in that case.

I like a campground that has campsites that are not on top of one another. I like some privacy. Therefore I boondock more than stay in structured campgrounds.

I didn’t know that camping wasn’t a family activity. We’ve always camped with kids and pets. Our preferences on amenities might be different than those without kids. Clean restrooms are always number one but when you have kids along it’s nice to have a place to swim or other activities geared towards kids. Even when I retire and get to camp more often I can’t imagine going to campgrounds not geared toward families.

I cannot believe that the comment to Mary was allowed to be displayed. As to the poll, we have camped for 41 years, from tent days to fifth wheel. We have camped with two kids and pets, and now on some trips we have grandchildren. I agree clean restrooms are a must and in the south at certain times of the year, the electrictiy is a good thing. We enjoy seeing families having a good time, but do appreciate well behaved children. That brings me to say that there is nothing like peace and quiet when camping when the kids are at school.

Clean restrooms most always mean the rest of the campground is in good shape.

I cannot believe the answers on your poll campground amenitys restrooms use the one in your motorhome its clean, but wi-fi is very important if you want to be able to afford a motor home
