Will the price of gas affect your camping trips?
Friday April 25, 2008
We filled the gas tank today, only $58.00. My wife looked at me and said, we're still going to Ocracoke. See, we travel about 2,000 miles or so every year to vacation on Ocracoke Island, NC. My wife loves it there and would not foresake going there for anything. In our case, the price of fuel will not deter out plans, but there are many campers who are choosing destinations closer to home to cut down on the cost of travel.
Will the price of gas affect your camping trips?
1.) yes
2.) no
3.) maybe

I do a lot of motorcycle camping and get about 55 mpg with a fully loaded bike. I have to watch the weather a little more closely than the cagers though.
We have to limit ourselves to local camping this year. UGH! Not a lot within a 100 miles of Chicago.
This was the year for our canoe trip (we alternate years) so we’re pretty disappointed, but at $90.00 to fill up the van, we have no choice.
Higher gas prices and the ridiculous camping fees in Michigan will mean fewer trips to the Campground.
Was just in Yosemite and the park is almost deserted. I know it is a little early in the year but still I can’t believe how few people there were.
I am sure that gasoline prices had plenty to do with that.

It will certainly effect any long distance camping I will do, I wont be taking my camper anywhere except the local lakes. However I think I will get a season pass at one of them, and I can just leave my camper there for the whole season, if I want to. Then I can ride over on my bike, or in our small car. We may have to change campspots, as there is a 14 day limit for each spot. But the season pass is 175.00, and I can take my boat there too, for that price.
Airfare RT to Mexico is 400 + per person. This makes our 200 mile camping trips seem very affordable. 200/10 mpg x $4.00 = $80.00 If you own a camping membership then your stay is paid. We’ll keep camping, anything is better than staying indoors!
Definitely will affect our camping. Maybe 1 trip locally will be it for this summer. That will cost about $180 in gas alone. Locally is still about a 2 hour distance for decent camping.
We joined Thousand Trails Campgrounds last year, and one of the most beautiful sites is only an hour from us, and they do have seasonal camping for a minimal fee. I believe that is our plan for the summer. That way we can take the hybrid and drive down for long weekends, and still feel like we are a million miles away!
We will still go camping. It is the way we have always done vacation. It’s still the cheapest way to go. We use tents right now and stay in modern camp grounds. That way we can take in the best of several things camping and we can always go see the sites of the area.We always take at least one set of good clothes so, we have a place to clean up if we decide to get a little fancy.
Just got a livin lite popup. Will be doing more than in the past, as it towes behind a Subaru no prob!
We didn’t by the motorhome to let it sit on the side of the house. What’s the old saying..if you want to play you gotta pay! One or two trips a month for us between now and November.
