Looking for Public Campground Info

Thursday July 31, 2008
Tom Hilligrass (SwimmingHoles.info) sent me an email about a new project he's working on:

"I have long been frustrated by all the camping directories and websites that include only a subset of campgrounds - only national parks, or only reservable places, or whatever. Even Woodalls, which seems most complete, is missing a huge number of National Forest sites, my favorite. They also have terrible mapping or locator systems - nearest town or whatever. With the new Google maps user interface and directions, with GPS units in everyones car and cell phones too, I thought it was time to take a whole new approach and so I am doing so. I am including only public (Fed, State, Local) sites as these are my interest and there doesnt seem to be much commercial interest in them. I plan to have this site fully up for all states by summer 2009. I am getting data from numerous sources and I plan it to be the most complete public campground directory bar none."

Check it out at www.pubcamp.info.

Mr. Hilligrass’s website is an excellent detailed campgrounds by location with information and links.

Likewise we enjoy camping at public campgrounds, especially the ones providing natural scenery instead of parkinglot setups.

Suggest bookmarking his site for camping references.

Warning: Camping in forest or state parks may cause trade in of Class A motorhome for mini-motorhome, tent trailer, or tent!

I have no interest in parking next to a large motorhome in a paved parking lot so close that when they sneeze we hear it. I also love to expose my grandchildren to nature and what better way than camping in a state park, etc. We all love it.
Haven’t been to the website but look forward to checking it out.

Another good source is Trails.com, which is a compendium of various travel guides, plus USGS maps. This is a great site. It would be nice to have an upload option to add reader-discovered data.

Great site for finding places close to home or away. Make sure you check before you rely on all the informations accuracy before leaving to find the campsites. Some of the campsite areas have been closed up. Southern California area E : “Basin, and Rocky Point” have been closed for about 4 years now. They are in the area of Littlerock Dam and have been fenced off.
