Cardinal Sins of Campers

Thursday September 11, 2008
There are good campers, and there are bad campers. Good campers come prepared, use common sense, and are courteous to those camping around them, while bad campers either lack awareness or aren't prepared, and they have no regard for their campground neighbors. You'll soon learn that there is little privacy in a campground and that sound travels well too. You came here to enjoy yourself, and so did everyone else. Be a good camper and don't spoil the fun for others.

Each point is valid. It’s a shame I can’t shoot the next camper that walks through my campsite. Two weeks ago I had an electrical site and the people on the non-electrical site accross the road did not. In the middle of the night they ran an extension cord accross the road to tap into our power. Stealing from the COE. They also had a dog that woudl bark at anything that walked by.

This past Labor Day my friends and I had our annual camping trip. On occasion we’ll have obnoxious campers near us but we ignore them for the most part. This time I had to confront them since two of their kids thought it would be a great idea to walk around the camp sites shooting off their paintball guns. I guess their parents didn’t understand the danger they were putting themselves, their children, and other campers in. Talk about total disregard for your fellow campers.

We like to stay at state park campgrounds. They are usually cleaner and such. What I find is a gesture of good conscience is to bring along a small bottle of inexpensive pump hand soap to leave in the ladies bathroom for all to use. The bathrooms are so busy, they run out of soap put there by park employees.I saw someone else do this once, and now I do it too.

David, what get’s me is these people that think it is aright to burn whatever they want in their Fire Pits i.e. PLASTICS. don’t they know other people really don’t want to smell it. Besides the Chemicals that you have breath in is worse than Smoking a pack of Cigarettes. I go to enjoy the Environment, not somebodies trash burning.

Also leaving your big lantern lit and unshaded sitting on your picnic table until after midnight. Some of us like to look at the stars from our campsite while enjoying a low fire, or turn in early to get a fresh start in the morning

We had a neighbor who talked all night (Till 2am). They would laugh and talk and drink, then laugh and talk and drink some more. After being told that their sound carries, they said they would try and continue to laught and talk and drink till 2am. We returned the kindness with a few noises of our own at 6am. That is juvenile, but it felt good…
