How Long Are Your Camping Trips?

Friday July 10, 2009
In the summer, most of my camping trips are 1-nighters during the week when campgrounds are less crowded. However, every fall I go on a 3-week trip.

We have a permanent sitein a campground near Lake Champlain in NY. We stay from May 1 to Oct 1 and enjoy every minute of it. We hate to go home to the small town with nothing going on!

I still work for a living, so needless to say my trips are weekends. My camper stays at the resort, and I have no way of towing it. So every summer we spend 1 week in the camper and 1 week on vacation in a motel somewhere.

We live in South Florida and camp about once a month, our trips are weekend trips about 1 1/2 hours away. Once a year we do a road trip camping along the way for a couple, three weeks or so. With gas pricing going up & up I think we’ll skip the road trip this year and camp in Florida for vacation this year. Our State Parks are wonderful check them out http://www.floridastateparks.org.

Although most of our trips are two days, we take one or two long trips a year — six weeks on the beach with a week going and coming with one or two day stops along the way.

The family & I did a lot of tent camping when the kids were small. Then there was a long break. About 10 years ago I bought a pop up camper to the tune of $5,000 plus. Wouldn’t ya know it..the wife decided she didn’t want to camp with me anymore. So now I go by myself & commune with the Lord & nature. Sometimes my son joins me & we do guitar & singing. C’mon warm weather. :~)

We live in Washington State. Hubby and I both grew up camping with relatives. When our two kids were younger, we always camped for one week in the Mountains, and one week at the Coast.( When our Daughter was 9, she broke her arm during one of the Mountain trips.)We now camp three or four times a year in the Mountains, and our Son and his Girlfriend join us for at least one trip. Still have a great time !!

(15) Steve Gray says:

I guess a 35 ft 5th wheel with all te amenities would probably no longer be considered camping. But, living on the road full time is great for the changes in scenery every so often if nothing else. North in summer, South in winter.

(16) Ashleigh says:

We haven’t been able to get away for a while but now we are planning a 10 day trip, the kids are really excited. We’ll be hiking most of the trip and I was concerned about the kids getting lost so I bought them new Motorola W376 that come with DMFL and a camera, FM radio, web access and blue tooth. They also have games like Suduko and Tetras built in which I think are good for math and co-ordination. Anyway, I got them on promotion for less than $30 which means that I only really paid something like $6 per phone considering what the DMFL costs. Tracfone is great because they are inexpensive so I’m not going to bite the kid’s heads off if they get damaged and they can’t run up huge bills. The kids are really pleased to be able to take some technology with them and I feel more comfortable that they can call me if something goes wrong.

We camp at France Park, Logansport, IN and we LOVE it! We only live 3 miles away, but have animals that need tending. This is our 4th night home since school let out in mid to late May. We have a great time and the kids have a lot of friends to play with. It is the perfect setup for us, but also a wonderful place for newcomers to try out! There are a lot of wonderful qualities check out http://www.francepark.com and see!!
