Where Do You Like To Camp?
Friday July 17, 2009
I've camped in a lot of different terrains including the hills and woods of Kentucky, the Sierra Nevada in California, the Smoky Mountains of Tennessee, the canyons and desert in Arizona, Nevada and Utah, the state parks of Ohio, and near the ocean on the Outer Banks of North Carolina. They all were great places to camp, but I like camping near the ocean best.

I being a beginner @ age 48, really need all the help I can get,I;m moving just NW of Charlotte NC,,not far from lake Norman,Knowing stuff about what to do if a bear sneaks up on you,Is it legal to shoot it ? Plus I’m livin in a rural area with 2 acres of land, wooded
. I like this site about camping, cooking outdoors fishing and how to clean game/fish,Thanx
My very favorite place on earth to camp is in Yosemite Valley. There’s nothing that can compare with stepping out of my tent early in the morning to find myself surrounded by the most beautiful scenery on earth. Watching the sun glisten on the granite cliffs as the sun rises, hearing the waterfalls thundering over those same cliffs and the birds singing, and watching the squirrels making their rounds to find breakfast is so totally awesome!!
I like backpack camping along the North Shore of Lake Superior. I’ll be heading out West this summer, so that will be even cooler I hope.
We as a family like the sierras. We go to Emigrant Gap. It is off 80 between reno and cal.The are great cliffs to jump from and beutiful scenery and hiking views. Campgroud, running water, bathrooms, lot of fun!!!
I wanted to say near the ocean is my favorite camping location, but reality is the numerous campground inland locations are more available and more varied.
I pick mountains as favorite because it has it all, peaks, rivers, lakes, flora & fauna, and you can get away from the cities.
You left out the deserts. A very satisfying wilderness experience!
My favorite place to camp is Cape Cod, MA. My favorite campground has about 6 ponds in pine woods, which I love; and is within a short drive of the ocean. Mmmmm… woods, fresh water, ocean, campfire… what more could one ask for?
Randy Smith, if you are worried about bears you need to get more information. Bears are basically scavengers. You have a better chance getting bitten by a snake than seeing a bear. Carry an extra waterproof stuff sack that will hold all food (and implements that come in contact with food) that can be hung from a tree (about 10′ from the trunk) away from your campsite. NEVER keep food in your tent or pack at night. By doing this you have reduced your chances of meeting a bear by a huge percentage. Now go out and have some fun. Be smart and stay on the trail (lots of human smells there). Oh an by the way, buy the best hiking boots and sock you can find. NOT afford, FIND!! You’ll thank me later.
I like to take the family to Splash Magic (Central Pennsylvannia) for camping. The children are entertained and I love relaxing by the pool and the campfire. Affordable family fun in this economy. Last year we stayed for a week for around $300 for a family of 6, it included miniture golf, bike rentals, pool usage, movie nights, paddle boats, bumber boats, and daily “special” activities.
I live in Western WA state and where we are the ocean is often near forest/woods as well. My favorite place to camp is Deception Pass in northern western WA. It is near the naval base and a couple of small towns, woods, and beach with salt water and a couple of lakes as well. It may be 80+ degrees in town, but there is always a cool, pleasant breeze. Those who like the heat, can warm themselves in the sun. Those who don’t can wade in the water–icy cold, sit in the shade with a good book! There is plenty for kids to do. The park is clean. It is just the best place to camp!
I love camping in Australia, it is an amazing country to travel, so diverse in terrain and weather conditions
i like camping in the woods. i also like to camp near water. i camp a little river state park. it has it all. everything you could look for in a campground.
