Take the Fall Camping Poll
Friday October 2, 2009
The weather is getting cooler up north, and many campers have already stored their gear. Non-snowbirds are making plans to winterize their RVs. Yet many campers find this time of year to be great for enjoying the outdoors. I think fall is a very beautiful time of year to be outdoors, and I have plans to camp some more this year.

My family and I do more camping this time of year than any other. You can’t beat the cool/cold crisp air while hanging out around the campfire sipping hot spiked cider and toddies. All of the camping is quick weekend trips due to the kids being in school though. We finish up the season late with an adult only get together with some friends where we toss around ideas for next season.
Living in northern Michigan and being a tent camper fall camping is a challenge. But I always manage a weeked in October when Indian Summer arrives–can’t beat that crisp air!
I am going this weekend (Columbus Day) for 3 nights! It is way….. too warm for this CO native to pack it all up for the summer while living here in MA!! I camp until it gets in the low 30’s at nite.
Living way down south in Miami, I’m fortunate to be able to camp year round although it’s hot in the summer months we have AC in the PopUp. These up & comming months are the best camping months down here, and our state parks are among the best, so come on down from the cold and enjoy. Check out http://www.floridastateparks.org
I just went camping this past weekend and have yet two more camping trips planned in the next 4 weeks. The season hasn’t come to an end yet for me in Tennessee.
We are planning a trip next weekend to Heyburn State Park in Northern Idaho. It is usually our last outing for the year. It is a great place to do battle with the racoons!
Late October and November are good times to see fall colors in the West. Aspen leaves have fallen off at high elevations, but many are at their peak in late October at lower elevations, especially the east side of the Sierra Nevada Mountains.
We also hunt for fall colors in November in foothills and coastal areas. The crowds are gone, kids are in school, and travel prices are lower. Ideal time to get out and about.
We just returned from our last weekend for the season. Spent three days at CAESAR CREEK STATE PARK in Warren County, Ohio: beautiful weather and the park was FULL! We love camping in the Fall and we have had a great season this year staying closer to home, due to gas prices. We have learned that it doesn’t take much to keep our family entertained!
Just returned yesterday from an overnite campout/pack meeting with Cub Scout Pack 175 Ramsey NJ We camped at Camp Glen Gray in Mahwah NJ. The weather was great and the boys had a terrific time.
Just returned from a 30 day trip in the RV and have winterized and retired rig for the winter. Looks like it will be May 2009 before RV leaves the yard again.
We would be camping some in the Fall except for having to get our house ready to sell. We’ll go camping in January-February 2009 – in Florida
We love camping this time of year. Suprisingly in Ohio the weather is perfect for a fall camping trip. There is nothing like making smores with the kids and snuggling up with the husband and just plain relaxing!
I would love to camp this time of year, but with the kids sports schedules it is not possible!
i won’t be doing any anymore camping this year. the weather hasn’t been good. next fall for sure.
My family and I do most of our camping and backpacking in the winter months here in Kansas and it’s neighboring states. I’ve hiked with two of my grandkids, 5 -6, with temps in the teens and we had a ball. I love hiking all day and then setting up camp for the night, getting a good fire going! And there are no snakes!
