Meteors will light up the night sky this weekend during the annual Perseid meteor shower. More than 100 meteors are expected to fall per hour with rates increasing up to 400 to 1,000 at times.
The Perseid Meteor shower is an annual event and will peak from August 11 - 13, 2012, though meteors can be viewed through August 22.
This year's event looks to be promising. The moon is waning, which will allow optimum darkness for viewing. Peak hours for viewing are early in the morning between 12 midnight and 2 AM.
Meteor showers are best experienced away from city lights and in an area with out skyline obstruction. Plan a stargazing campout with About Camping's state by state campground finder or head to the park closest to home.
