Do you like s'mores?
Friday February 15, 2008
The classic s'mores is a gooey camping treat made with chocolate, graham crackers and marshmallows roasted over a campfire. There are many ways to make s'mores, but all recipes involve sitting around a campfire.

I take the traditional smore and spread peanutbutter on the graham cracker and then add the chocolate and marshmellow.
It is quite tasty.
As a boy scout leader we try to avoid someone bringing smores. Nothing like spiking the boys with a loads of suger right before bedtime. plus hot marshmellow is nasty to get off cloths and tents if one fo them desides its cool to have a marshmellow war. if one of the new leaders desides that smores are nessesary for the outing we try to get them to wait till 2nd night out when the boys are to tired to get too wired.
I have never really liked smores. They are too dry and messy. I would rather eat the contents seperately. I like roasting marshmallows, tho.
Mr. Scout “Leader”-
Sounds like you have a few control issues you need to tackle if you can’t let your scouts enjoy making s’mores because they might make a mess. Scouting, and camping, are supposed to be fun. Relax a little. They’re kids!
I’m with Tim, but the family loves them. I’ll have them try the PB next time out, sounds good.
I like the idea about the peanut butter. I do like smores but for just roasting….I like “peeps”, you know the sugar coated little chicks that you see at Easter. They roast up crunchy on the outside and gooey on the inside!!!
We are a girl scout family. Don’t leave for the camping trips unless the s’more ingredients are in the trailer or camp bucket!
S’mores? Oh, yah! I’m a Girl Scout leader and making s’mores around the camp fire is always a highlight of the trip. Kids have trouble settling for sleep on these trips, anyways, so a little sugar doesn’t really matter, imo! One Girl Scout secret to s’mores: use the All Abouts / Thanks-a-Lots Girl Scout cookies instead of the graham crackers and chocolate. The cookies are a shortbread type with a layer of chocolate on the back. Yum!
I read about a great way to make s’mores in Dian Thomas’s “Roughing it easy.” Basically you take a marshmellow and cut pockets in the flat side it for chocolate chips. Put it on the stick with the chips facing you. Then do the same thing with the other marshmallow with the chips pointing in the other direction. I hope I explained that right! Much less messy it would seem.
Going to try it tomorrow!
