What is your favorite season to go camping?
Friday February 29, 2008
Summer is obviously the busiest camping season, and I guess you can attribute that to kids being out of school and warm weather, but there are plenty of campers who prefer to camp when it's cold, and there are even some who would rather do it in the snow. Every season has its own attractions and benefits to backpackers, campers and hikers.
What is your favorite season to go camping?
1.) spring
2.) summer
3.) fall
4.) winter
5.) any season

I love to camp in early fall for the exact same reasons and have been camping for almost 50 years of my 54! You can’t beat it if you want a more solitude experience.
I only wished I discovered camping early in my life.
Each season has its own special little treets. Winter is wonderful for Beauty ,peace and solitude its a unique time for camping. Spring is Great for watching the new life ariveing. Summer is the least apealing. With the crowds and noise but the warmth is nice to a point. Fall is spectaculer for hikeing, viewing and just plain sitting arround an open fire on cool evenings enjoying each others company. Camping is for all seasons!
I think it really depends on where you’re going to, doesn’t it? Arizona is a beautiful place to go RV camping, but you couldn’t get me to try during the summers.
I’m always partial to Spring, though - not too hot, not too cold, everything is in bloom… who wouldn’t love that?
Hi again, David!
The best camping season is the ‘Off season’ for popular spots. For example, Yosemite Valley in late fall is calmer and less crowded.
Here in Northern California we like the FALL best for colors, less heat, less fog, less crowds, etc. etc.
I agree with comment #4. Camping in West Virginia in August is a delight but you might want to wait until November to brave the outdoors in South Florida.
I guess I’m weird, but I love winter camping. The crowds are gone, and if it’s in the mountains, snow makes everything beautiful.
If I’m camping in the RV with the family the temperature is not as critical, so spirng, summer or fall are great. However if we’re tent camping (we live in the midwest-where the weather is the worst for all worlds) spring or fall is the choice, fall being my favorite for the colors, brisk air and solitude. The winter was enjoyable in my youth, but age takes a toll and sub-zero temperatures are enjoyed indoors in front of a fireplace. Summer sometimes with triple digits and 100% humidity along with our pesky, flying, blood suckers and crowds makes for a miserable time camping.
As a tent camper and water lover, obviously I prefer late spring/ summer/ early fall camping but only during the week when crowds are down to a minimum. I NEVER, EVER camp on weekends!
I like fall the best. The temperatures are moderate and there is less chance of bad weather.
We like winter camping best by far, but that is because we go camping in southern Florida — Everglades and Keys. The weather is great and we know the weather back home (anywhere other than Florida) is lousy which makes it even more fun.
My wife and I are empty nesters so camping year round is okay, we tent camp so we don’t go when it’s too cold. We prefer the fall, when kids are back in school but because of job committments we go on weekends. The fall colors also are a factor
Most of our camping is done during the spring and summer months, but one of the best camping trips of the year comes the first week of November.
This is when my friends and I go on what we call a hunting trip (just another name for camping trip) and spend 11 days camping out in an old army tent.
It is by far the best camping trip of the year.
