Advice for Beginners

Tuesday June 20, 2006
Are you just getting into tent camping? One of the common mistakes of many first-time tent campers is to choose a private campground. I strongly suggest that you begin at a public campground, like a state park or national forest, rather than a private campground or RV park.
  • Private campgrounds are typically geared towards RVers.
    Public campgrounds are more tent-friendly.

  • Private campgrounds tend to offer resort-type amenities.
Public campgrounds are more nature oriented.

  • Private campgrounds are individually owned.
    Public campgrounds are government owned.

  • Private campgrounds each have their own regulations.
Public campgrounds have more consistent rules.
