Campground Cooking
Monday January 8, 2007
There are many ways to prepare a meal when camping. Campers might cook on a camp stove, over the grill or campfire, or in Dutch ovens. I prefer grilling on my portable Weber Baby Q, and I use my Coleman stove for pot cooking, but I also own two Lodge Dutch ovens that I use for baking everything from bread to roasts. If you're interested in Dutch oven baking at the campground, there are several good resources in the category for Campground Cooking. For example:
Campfire Cafe - is a weekly TV show that promotes cast-iron cooking over an open fire. Current episodes are viewable on their Web site, and their online store sells open-fire cooking gear, Lodge Dutch ovens, recipe books and more. The site also lists dozens of beautifully illustrated recipes. The site goes into great detail to explain how to select wood and build a proper fire for cooking with cast-iron.
