The Blue Ridge Parkway winds for 217 miles through Virginia from Shenandoah National Park to the North Carolina border. All along its route travelers will find numerous campgrounds and plenty of access points to the Appalachian Trail, which offer plenty of opportunities to get out in the woods for a little hiking and camping, or just to enjoy the endless array of spectacular scenery. The beauty of this area is the primary attraction responsible for drawing such quantities of visitors that the Blue Ridge Parkway has earned the distinction, according to the Blue Ridge Parkway Association, of being "annually ... the most popular area of the National Park System".
