Cape May and The Wildwoods

Destinations New Jersey

By David Sweet, About.com

Perfect summer weather, 30 miles of clean, sandy beaches, pristine woods to hike and observe nature, great fishing holes, Victorian charm and history, bird watching along the Atlantic flyby, biking along the coast, and campgrounds in beautiful natural settings. Vacationers will find these attractions and more to fill their days while visiting New Jersey's southern shore.

Cape May, dubbed the nation's oldest seaside resort, is situated at the southern tip of the New Jersey peninsula and is listed on the registry of National Historic Landmarks for the hundreds of Victorian homes that have been restored here. To easily view these nostalgic mansions, the Mid-Atlantic Center for the Arts offers walking and trolley tours along the gas lamp lit streets of Cape May. Visitors can choose accommodations from some of the best Bed and Breakfast Inn resorts in the country or some of the nicest campgrounds along the coast.

For family fun in the sun, head to the The Wildwoods, the five mile long barrier island that connects the resort communities of North Wildwood, Wildwood, and Wildwood Crest. Here you will find the famous two mile long boardwalk that takes you past arcades, restaurants, shops, and five amusement piers, which host roller coasters, water slides, and other thrill rides.

For family outdoor fun and adventures next to none, take a trip to New Jersey's southern shore, a great vacation destination. To explore the accommodations, attractions, entertainment, events, history, and recreation of the New Jersey southern shore, check out:
