Ever wonder how to brighten up your desktop with some personal photos. I learned how using Paint Shop Pro, and you can too.
Difficulty: Easy
Time Required: 5 minutes
Here's How:
- Using Paint Shop Pro (version 5 or later), open the image that you want to make into a desktop wallpaper.
- Use menu option Window/Duplicate to create a copy of the image to work on.
- Use the Selection tool to copy the part of the image to use for the desktop wallpaper.
- Click the Copy button on the tool bar which places a duplicate of your selection on the Windows clipboard.
- Next, create a new image using the menu option Edit/Paste/As New Image.
- If you started with an image that was bigger than your desktop, resize this image to your desktop dimensions using the menu option Image/Resize.
- Add a new layer to the image using the menu option Layers/New Raster Layer with the opacity set at 50%.
- Now use the Flood Fill tool and a color of white to fill the selected layer. This gives the image that opaque look.
- Lastly, use the menu option Selections/Select None, followed by Layers/Merge/Merge All.
- This image can now be saved as a BMP file and used as a desktop wallpaper.
Tips:
- Always keep your original images intact, only work with copies.
- When creating a new layer, play around with the opacity setting to achieve the desired look.
