I'm 45...the only time I've been camping was right out of college when a friend and myself went on a 3 week cross-country camping trip.

Now I have a 6 yr old son and we're going camping next week. We're in Florida so the temps at night should be in the 40's, maybe 50's at night. What kind of sleeping bags do we need? Should I get my son an adult sleeping bag that he will be able to grow into? Cost is a consideration so what do I compromise by getting a less expensive sleeping bag? Thanks!

Florida makes your camping this time of year somewhat easier. Nice to see you taking your son too. With temps in the 40's and 50's I wouldn't go to any expense for a sleeping bag. If you do decide to get one, you will only need a "light" model, and an expensive make isn't necessary either. What I would do instead is to just take regular bedding. I'm assuming you'll be tent camping, so do as my wife and I do: take some kind of padding, like the egg-crate sponge ones you can get most anywhere, take a bed sheet, a blanket or two, or your own sleeping bag to use as a blanket, and some pillows. Just make a bed like you were in your living room or on the couch.

When you do decide it's time to get a sleeping bag for your son, get an adult size, and get as much quality as you can afford. A good sleeping bag can last a lifetime.
