- Question:
I have made reservations at Disney's Fort Wilderness for 12 days, to arrive June 2nd. Should I be requesting a particular site or look at an area? I have an older popup, so all I need is electricity. Are all the sites the same size? same privacy? What activities do you recommend inside the campground and outside Disney nature-wise: swimming, hiking, canoeing?
- Answer:
I think you're going to love Fort Wilderness. I've never been, but I sure have dreamed about it. I hear nothing but raves about this campground. And I don't think you'll need to leave to look for recreation elsewhere. This place has everything: golf, swimming pools, sandy beaches, an arcade, kids' playground, watercraft rentals, bike rentals and miles of paths, tennis, volleyball, fitness/hiking trails, fishing, campfire programs, water parks, and horseback riding.
One of my visitors wrote "Absolutely the most perfect campground at which we have ever had the joy to stay. Miles of trails to ride bikes or to walk. Very clean and well kept, and of course the great Disney experience!"
As far as requesting a particular campsite, I think you can, but there's no guarantees. Have you tried contacting the folks who took your reservation? Suppose you can't reserve a particular site, it might help to know the campground layout and what sections others have liked before you get there, just in case they ask you at the gate which loop you would like. Study the map below to get an idea of the campground layout with its 20 loops and then visit Jeff Spencer's great Web site devoted to Fort Wilderness and read his FAQ page and all the comments from those who have been there. I did, and I'm ready to make plans myself.
