Travelogue - from the Hills to the Beach

Dateline: 09/06/98

Preparations

For months my wife and I have dreamed of our return to Ocracoke Island NC. In September this isolated paradise becomes virtually deserted as the school year starts and family vacationers dissipate. We're headed for the National Park campground there, which isn't high on amenities, but makes up for it with spacious dune sites near the beach, where the sound of the surf at night lulls you to sleep under a Milky Way blanket of clearly visible stars.

We've planned a 20 day trip, leaving tomorrow morning from Florence, Kentucky, with a one night campover tomorrow night north of Richmond, Virginia, at AmeriCamps campground. Once we're settled into our campsite at Ocracoke, we'll be bringing you plenty of details of attractions and recreation on the island, and photos too. Look for plenty of illustrated recipes, fishing tips, restaurant reviews, and more.

Until tomorrow ...
David
