Travelogue - from the Hills to the Beach

Dateline: 09/14/98

Another beachin' day

trip photo Fred, my camping buddy from PA, is the master at chair surfing! As always, Fred gets sun burned his first day at Ocracoke, but I think he uses that as an excuse to plop his chair in the edge of the surf where he can cool his hot feet in the water, relax, and enjoy a cold one. It doesn't get any better than this, does it?

Unlike Fred, who doesn't fish, I prefer to stand in the surf with a fishing pole in my hand. Even when the fish aren't biting, I can stand there with my fishing pole and look for shells, watch the shore birds and clouds, build sand castles with your toes, or feed the crabs.

My wife Christi, on the other hand, prefers to stroll the beach and look for shells. She found quite a few sand dollars and scotch bonnets that received many ooohs and ahhhs from her envious shell hunting friends. She also took advantage of every opportunity to sit in some shade (which is seldom) and read, which you can see her doing in the shadows in the above photo.

Until tomorrow ...
