Travelogue - from the Hills to the Beach
Dateline: 09/16/98|
The annual wienie roast was another grand success this year and marked the 5th year now that the gang has gotten together for this beachin' feast. The tradition, Guerry's special franks and Mark's yummy beans 'n' kraut, were enhanced this year with Kip's chili and some of my Dutch oven peach cobbler. There were no leftovers! ![]() This year's attendees (some shown above still eating): Guerry and Marie from NC, Doug and Kip from NH, Jim and Linda from VA, Fred and Bonnie from PA, Mark and Toots from NJ, Jocko (Mark's brother) from NJ, plus Christi and I from KY. ![]() Dessert: (Using a 10" Dutch oven, 14 coals on top and 12 under) Dump a big can of peaches in the Dutch oven, dump a box of yellow cake mix evenly over the peaches, then spread thin slices of butter on the cake mix, about 1/3 stick. Cover and bake until golden brown, rotating the oven and lid about every 10 minutes so as to avoid any hot spots that might burn the crust. Let it cool down a bit, then serve it up with some vanilla ice cream on top. Delicious! Until tomorrow ... David
