Travelogue - from the Hills to the Beach
Dateline: 09/19/98|
After spending yesterday recovering from Mark's birthday party, we found more energy and returned to our beach routines of fishing, shelling, and surfing. Later at the campground, while taking our daily cold showers (but it felt so good after a day on the beach), I inspected the southern skies for indications of clouds on the horizon, conditions necessary for good sunset shots. So far, with the exception of last Thursday when it rained, there have been nothing but clear skies. Today, however, there were waves of low clouds rolling out to sea as well as high whisping cumulus clouds. The combination presented a spectacular sunset that lasted 40 minutes! which we watched at the south end of Ocracoke village. ![]() Ocracoke lighthouse, with the setting sun casting good light on it. Built in 1823, it's the oldest lighthouse still operating on the east coast and it's light can be seen as far as 14 miles out at sea. ![]() Looking across Silver Lake, the harbor in Ocracoke Village.
