Fall is a great time to get outdoors, go camping, or take an auto tour and enjoy the changes of autumn. For lack of something better to do, consider participating in some of the activities planned by parks in your community. Many state parks and their campgrounds stay open year round. Although the northern weather may reach extremes for camping, other reasons to visit the parks are the many holiday events and special attractions offered during this time of year.

Even if camping isn't in your blood during the fall and early winter, the seasonal events in state and community parks just might be enough enticement to get you outdoors. From harvest festivals, to Halloween campouts, to Thanksgiving gatherings, and Holiday displays, the parks offer many opportunities to enjoy nature in the off-season.

Follow the links below to find out about events near you. Where I could not find any state park event calendars, I substituted one from a related state travel/tourism site.
