Destinations Mississippi

Situated in the southeast corner of the hospitality state of Mississippi, there lies a small stretch of border touching the Gulf of Mexico which has been aptly named the playground of the south. Favorite destination for Mississippi's booming casino industry, the area reminds us of the mutual attractions that gambling and the water had many years ago as riverboat gamblers traveled the paddle wheelers along the Mississippi river and it's tributaries. However, the casinos are but one of many attractions here, as there are also many golf courses in the area and miles and miles of clean, white sand beaches, the true attraction that draws visitors here from afar. For water adventures, there's plenty of excellent fishing, scuba and snorkeling, and just 12 miles offshore are the barrier islands, part of the Gulf Islands National Seashore. Accessible only by boat, these islands offer an opportunity to do some wilderness camping in isolation from the nearby crowds on the mainland. Civil war history buffs will enjoy exploring Fort Massachusetts, on West Ship Island, scene of a British invasion thwarted by Andrew Jackson in the war of 1812. And you nostalgia freaks can get your fill of old cars and rock & roll from the 50's and 60's during Cruisin' the Coast, "America's Largest and Longest Block Party" every October in Biloxi, Gulfport and Bay St. Louis.
