Camping with Family and Friends

For numerous years now life-long friends and family have been reuniting every 4th of July at the Gillespie place down in western Kentucky. The reunion campground is their front yard, which is nestled in a quiet cove of hardwoods across the road from the Nolin river. The weekend offers a quiet respite from the turmoils of the city, and a chance for us to catch up on each others lives. Seems that as we get older the miles between us become farther and the times pass quicker.

this outhouse works good as new But for some reason, whenever the Lucky Dawgs (as we call ourselves) get together, time seems to revert to a pace reflective of that when we were younger. And that's where the family and friends come in because it is their presence that creates the peaceful space that allows us to relax, slow down, laugh a little, and temporarily escape any problems or tasks waiting for us back in the real world.

For the few days that we have together, and when the weather is agreeable, we can manage to do quite a bit of recreating, from horse shoes, to float trips down the Nolin, swimming and fishing, card games, campfire concerts, and bird watching, plus massive consumptions of food and drink. This campsite even comes with its own isolation booth (above photo) where one can escape to contemplate the mysteries of the universe, or just sit a spell and read a Sears catalog. What a perfect campsite ehh?

The secret to finding the perfect campsite isn't necessarily where you camp, but with whom. For memorable outdoor experiences, plan on spending them with those you love.
