Eastern Kentucky is Big Sandy River country and the northern gateway to Kentucky's beautiful Appalachian Mountain region. Impounded on Blaine Creek, a tributary of the Big Sandy River, is the 2,300 acre Yatesville Lake, the largest lake in eastern Kentucky, and it is here where you will find the newest of Kentucky's state parks. Opened April 1st, 1999, near the town of Louisa, Yatesville Lake State Park offers some very unique camping opportunities.
The campground has 47 campsites, 27 with RV hookups and 20 that are primitive, and other amenities including restrooms and showers, laundry, and a dump station. But for something different, there are 16 secluded, primitive boat-in campsites with restrooms, which are accessible only by boat. Also, off of the main campground, there are 4 walk-in campsites for all of you non-boaters who would like to primitive camp in the woods.
