Des Moines, Iowa Iowa's biggest annual celebration is also one of the nation's most popular summer destinations for campers and RVers. The Iowa State Fair campgrounds spread over 160 wooded acres and provide 1,600+ campsites, with electric and water. But the real attraction is the opportunity to camp in a country setting and yet be able to enjoy the shopping and attractions of nearby Des Moines, and during August, to partake in the fun and activities of the 140-year-old classic Iowa State Fair. This year's theme is "Sounds Like Fun", and promises to be just that. With a star-studded lineup at the Grandstand and the great talent on the free stages, there's music for everyone. If you're bold and adventurous, musically inclined, good looking, or just want some laughs, check out the many talent shows and whacky contests, like cow chip throwing, duck calling, fiddle playing, pie eating, egg rolling, and more. The Iowa State Fair also features one of the world's largest livestock shows and the state's largest art show. And let us not forget the thrills of the midway rides and all the yummy foods. This fair is definitely a classic worth attending! State fairs are a lot of fun, so plan on visiting one this year.
