Winfield, Kansas One of the premiere camping events of the year returns every September to Winfield, Kansas and campers and musicians will be arriving a week early to get in line for the ritual landrush to claim their favorite campsites. Tradition has been bringing the same festival goers back, year after year to the Cowley County fairgrounds, to set up camps in this pecan grove amongst all the pickers, acoustic musicians, friends and acquaintances made at previous festivals. Acoustic music highlights this festival, with 4 days of performances on 4 stages, including several contests for musicians, songwriters, and even campsites. But after the shows is when the real fun begins, in the campground, where the music and entertainment go on all night long and are as much of an event as the festival itself. No festival would be complete without food, and you'll find plenty of tempting choices along the festival midway. Also, there's a great schedule of events just for kids>, including talent shows, concerts, and storytelling; and there's numerous workshops for musicians and songwriters; plus much more. This is a great camping destination to consider! Never have I seen a camping event with such an Internet community: the Web fans (see below) have bulletin boards, a chat room, mailing list, photo galleries, Winfield recipes, memoirs, and even a radio station. The opinions expressed by previous attendees are most alluring.
