Ice Age Landscaping - 2

The Wisconsin landscape has a scenic diversity which was attained as a result of the advances and retreats of glaciers, the most recent being the Wisconsin Glaciation, from which the state derived its name. The aftermath of all this geologic activity left Wisconsin with a rolling terrain covered with many lakes and forests nestled among the ridges and hills.

In the central part of the state near Baraboo, is one of the more popular outdoor areas know as Wisconsin Dells. In the vicinity is Parfrey's Glen, Wisconsin's first natural area, which has scenic trails from which you can observe the many unusual plants here. Four miles to the west is Devil's Lake State Park, which offers, besides camping, swimming, boating, fishing, hiking, and biking; and there's also the four mile ice age loop trail, suitable for both hiking or mountain biking, and offering off-trail scenic views.

Another great camping destination in the area includes Mirror Lake State Park, which touts to have some great winter ice fishing and is also popular as a summer fishin' hole. Here too, you will find scenic hiking and biking trails, and plenty of water recreation around this beautiful lake.

The splendid scenery and outdoor recreation opportunities make the Wisconsin Dells area a great camping destination!
