Campground Review

My two children, 13 and 10, and I, their mother, just returned from a camping trip in Big Bend National Park, Texas, Chisos Basin to be exact. Conditions here are still very primitive, quiet and most scenic. Black bear sightings are a daily occurrence and 4-5 times a month a mountain lion catches someone's eye. Wild javelinas might wander through around dusk.

The scenery is beautiful. Some attractions not to be missed are the natural hot springs and there are several hikes that are really wonderful. Bring plenty of water on your hikes! The land at the base of the mountains is very hot, but the weather at the top is nice even in August! Cool at night even. Be sure to select a campsite with shade. Fresh water is provided at open spigots throughout camp. There is no electricity. The only convenience are very clean restrooms. Note: no showers. My city bred, mall shopping, cable TV addict son wants to become a park ranger now!! Guess that says it all. Please observe the bear safety warnings and keep your camp secure and all food locked up in the bear lockers.

Good camping!
