Campground Review
I read with great interest the recommendation on Curt Gowdy State Park in Cheyenne, WY by "Wild Man." I've been there several times the last couple years with the family and with the kids on outings with church youth overnighters. It's a beautiful park. Lots of places to hike and fish. Boating is allowed, too. My experience has been that swimming is not allowed anywhere in the park. Period. We would have loved to swim each of the trips. Do you or "Wild Man" know of a place in the park (marked swim beach or other designated swim area) where swimming is permitted? I'd love to bring swim suits on our next trips there this year!Follow-up from Wild Man: "Sorry about the misinformation on swimming in the lake, it has been some 30 years ago we did the swimming there."
Also, there is an old boy scout lodge (Hynds Lodge) that is reservable. It is just down the road from the main park entrance and is great for group rentals. We've gone with several other families on our annual "friends" campout weekend. It's a beautiful, serene location with plenty to do for all ages. The lodge is comfortable and there are spots to pitch tents and park trailers. The only thing missing is a shower. Everything else makes this area a family favorite!
