Nick - I found this campground driving south about five miles out of Silverton, and I camped there in July 2001.

Campground Review

Molas Lake Campground is a primitive campground at elevation 10,850 feet. Supposedly the highest official campground in the US. It has tent and RV sites (no hookups) situated on a beautiful, well stocked trout lake that is surrounded on all sides by beautiful mountain ranges, which are all 13,000+ feet in height. Campsites are mostly private and placed in a random layout (not city tenement style) with fantastic vistas. Fishing is supposed to be superb. There is a small store with a few necessities available. Wildflowers abound here. A deserted old log cabin is still standing where a John Wayne movie was filmed in the 60's. The campground is perfectly situated near Silverton so as to be able to visit easily within 10 to 15 minutes. Evenings are very cool and star shows are a must.
