JD - I found out about this campground from information passed on to me as a nice place to family camp. We've camped there at different times of the year.

Campground Review

If anyone wishes to camp along ridges and beautiful landscape without the worry of neighbors, then this spot has it - history, small mountains for hiking, a large lake and a river running by it. Located in the Uwharrie Mountains, it is quiet and offers lots of outdoor activities. Summer time boasts of a swimming pool. During the night, deer frequent the area brousing along at a slow pace. Birds are everywhere and eagles aren't uncommon. The campsites don't have electric, but they're large and roomy. In fact, some sites have double occupancy. This allows more than one tent (up to four tents!) where a group can camp. Many times throughout the year, we have had herds of deer graze right at our tent doors. One morning this past fall my grandson, Wil, who just turned four years old, saw his first deer! He was all smiles. Fishing in the lake is great. The park offers free boat launching. There is a National Forest located right across the river here. Only about 40 miles from Charlotte, North Carolina. The town of Albemarle is very close (about 5 miles) and has excellent places to shop. There's a lot to do here, and it's a great place for a family visit.
