Campground Review

Elkmont Campground is located in the heart of the Smoky Mountains near Gatlinburg, Tennessee at an elevation of 2,150'. It has 220 campsites located in a heavily wooded area with many sites bordering the Little River, a mountain stream that's popular with tubers and trout fishermen. The campground has 12 restrooms, but no showers to bathe and there are no electric, water or sewer hookups at RV sites. During the summer months, the park rangers offer various evening nature programs that educate campers on the park history, plants, and animals of the park. If you are looking for a little relaxation and time to enjoy nature, this is the place for you. Unfortunately, due to the popularity of this campground, summer campers will have to make reservations months ahead to be sure to get prime creek-side campsites. The campground often posts daily no vacancy signs from June through August. I have been camping at Elkmont for 30 years and always look forward to returning there.
