Gail - I found this campground's Web site and it looked nice, so I camped there Easter 2003.

Campground Review

This campground is very family oriented with lots of activities for the kids and adults. There is swimming in a pool or along the Tangipahoa River (white sand beaches), canoe rentals, large ball field, planned activities, and DJ's or bands on the weekends. They even have peacocks roaming the property! Beautiful live oak trees dripping with Spanish moss are everywhere. Bathhouses need updating, leaky faucets and peeling paint detracted from a very enjoyable visit. One other note of caution, this is not a RV resort. Sites are not well-marked or level in some instances. Bring your leveling blocks, relax, and enjoy!

"My husband and I started camping a few years ago and then we started bring the granddaughters. We went to different camping sites and when the girls got old enough they told us that Hidden Oaks was the only place they wanted to go. When we asked why, they said there was so much to do there. Every weekend there is different theme and there is a DJ or a band and dances under the pavillion. We could feel the family bonding there, and everyone is always polite and everyone is like family. The girls could ride their bikes or walk around the park and everyone looks out for everyone. We felt very safe there and felt that the girls couldn""t be in a better place to enjoy life in the outdoors. There is a little play ground, a swimming pool, a little general store, a field for football, plenty of relaxation time, family time, then go out and meet those new BBQ friends and sit back and relax. There has been no other place we have camped in probably 12 years and no other place we would have rather been. We have not been camping now for three years since my husband passed away and we have not gone back. There is lots of good memories there and if we every go camping again you can bet Hidden Oaks will be the place. The girls talk about when they get married and have kids and wanting to bring their own families there. They will be good stories to tell and lots of good memories. So before you decide on one particular campground make sure you try out HIDDEN OAKS IN HAMMOND for a great weekend."
