Campground Review

Our family found Holly Ridge last spring. It's only 30 minutes from our house and a great choice for a quick getaway or a planned vacation. Owner Curt Bryant operates the cleanest, friendliest, full-service campground we know. With about 70 sites, maybe one third are pull-through sites with full service, another third are back-ins with full service, another third are back-ins with electricity and water. Cabins are also available. Office houses a small store, video rental, game rooms, satellite TV/VCR room with borrowing library, and wash room. Bathrooms are the absolute cleanest we've ever seen.

Outside is a pool, picnic shelter (where weekend events are held on a schedule), putt-putt, shuffleboard, playground, basketball, volleyball, and badminton. Only putt-putt has a fee, costing 50 cents. My kids are free to roam the campground on their bikes, and we have no fear. We can lounge by the pool or in the shade of our campsite. Or we can take a hike down to the Yadkin River. Curt also offers canoe trips, but I'm not aware of the details. Many campsites have decks overlooking the woods with chairs and side tables. Every campsite has a fire pit and picnic table. Curt watches out for the many kids and doesn't allow any of the rowdy bunch to spoil your visit. It's a quick detour off Highway 77 at Elkin, so many visitors stop in for a night or two on the way to the beach or the mountains. Make reservations early to guarantee a spot. You won't regret it.
