Mary - I found this campground in the AAA camping book and Maine Visitor Center, and I RV camped there in June 2003.
Campground Review
Mike, the owner, is a friendly and helpful host. There are two parts to the campground with over 130 sites. We camped in an A-Liner on a site large enough for the camper and a screen house. All the sites are partially shaded with many trees. Each site has a large fire pit. They have an immaculate bathhouse with wonderful showers. Best of all, the campground is only minutes from Bar Harbor and Acadia National Park and across the road from the popular Bass Harbor Lighthouse. Rate for us: $30 a night with water and electric hookups.

BASS HARBOR CAMPGROUNDNovember 22, 2009By THIRDSTONE
"I have no idea what campground two of the reviewers stayed at, but I can tell you this much, the review depends when you stayed there. The campground at one time was run by a fellow with health problems. but from 2005 onward it has been owned by another family who do a very nice job at running the place. The campground has a pool, and it is definately not minutes away from Bar harbor. It's about a 25 minute drive away. As for it being across the street from the Bass harbor Lighthouse - are you kidding? It's about a 20 minute walk away. The Bass Harbor Swans Ferry is about 25 minute walk away. The campground is broken up into two parts, the main part with the pool, game room, and store are along route 102A while the other large section sits across the roadway, and fronts both route 102A and the Lighthouse road along the other side. In all the years I lived over by there, I never heard any drunken parties. Once each year a very large group made up of teenagers rents most of one side of the campground for a week, and yes, during that week it does get a little noisey, but that's about it. As far as one reviewer stating there was a lot of squealing of tires, that did use to go on a lot on that stretch by the campground, but the town of Tremont (which includes bass Harbor) had no law enforcement of any kind years ago. The town now does have enforcement and they no loonger torlorate the squealing of car tires. The family that now run the campground are christians and they have a sunday evening service with some live music. The National Park is over there, but there isn't a whole lot for trails within walking distance, other then Ship Harbor Trail about 15 minutes away and the Wonderland Trail about 20 minute walk away. There is also a lengthy unofficial trail off to the left by the lighthouse just before the long wooden steps going down to the water's edge. The campground also has several really nice cabins as well. No one mentioned it, but the campground is also serviced by the free Island explorer Buses, so you can leave your car at the site and ride the bus anywhere on the island for free. And the buses run late into the evening. there are also two country stores within a 5 minute drive that both sell food as well as fresh pizza and subs. I hope you find this helpful."
