Willy - I found out about this campground in Backpacker Magazine, and I tent camped there in July 2002.

Campground Review

This campground has everything. It is isolated. It is located at the tip of Door County, and requires two ferry rides to get to your site. The sites are spread out with most right on the shores of Lake Michigan. Once there you can hike around the island and explore old lighthouses and cemeteries of the first inhabitants. The carvings in the rock walls will impress children, and the sandy beach provides campers the opportunity to cool off in the lake. A reef extends 100 yards into Lake Michigan and allows children to walk out into the lake. All this with a beautiful boathouse and shelter that provides a safe haven during storms that can regularly roll in. Wow, this place is perfect. Book early as camping this nice is tough to find.
