Dereck - I found this campground in the Georgia State Parks Guide, and I tent camped there in August 2003.
Campground Review
This is a beautiful state park with one of the best campgrounds in the Georgia state park system. The sites are wooded and well-equipped, with access to water and electricity. Many of them are near a stream and are spacious enough for two tents, and they are all set a comfortable distance apart, in most cases. The comfort stations are old, but adequate, and the park's activities for kids are great. The lake has a beautiful sand beach with a large covered pavilion nearby, which features live music on the weekends. There are paddle boats, mini-golf, and beach volleyball. The general store has almost every supply you could need for camping.
My friends and I hiked on the trail from our campsite up to the top of Blood Mountain on the Appalachian Trail. This is a pretty strenuous day hike, but the view from the top is worth it!
Vogel is a very popular state park (it was full in mid-August), and in my view one of the best in Georgia. I understand the rustic log cabins there are great, and they book up 11 months in advance.
