Marie - I found this campground in a pamphlet I got at the Nicolet National Forest Ranger Station, and I tent camped there in August 2003.
Campground Review
Located in the Jones Springs Area - Southwest of Lakewood on the western edge of the Nicolet National Forest. This campground is not for everyone. There are only six sites, on Fanny Lake, but it is perfect for those who really want to get away from it all. It is a remote primitive campground. You pay $3.00 per day (or $10.00 for a season) for parking in the lot, and you have to pack everything in. There are pit toilets, but no showers or running water. You have to carry your water in with everything else. No bicycles are allowed, but there is a great hiking trail. The fishing is great. The smallmouth bass were biting great, and so were the turtles (snapping and painted). This campground is in a real wildlife area. There were two loons that call the lake home. It was great to hear them calling at dusk and dawn. There were eagles, hawks, and I saw a fox, and we saw some bear signs. If you like to rough it, this is a great site. Check out other remote primitive sites at a national park near you; it's a great experience. This was our first time there, and we loved it.
