Gerald - I found this campground with my parents in the 1960's, and I camped there in 1991.

Campground Review

Elkmont holds great memories for me. As a child in the 1960's, we camped there. We would often park overnight in Maryville. It was safe to do those things at one time. We would line up to get in the campground early in the morning.

As a child, I remember quietly tying a string around a trash can lid (at night). When it got quiet, I would pull the string. The lid would fall and everyone in the campground thought that a bear had gotten into the trash. Flashlights were everywhere! My late father loved telling that story.

OK, maybe by today's standards it is a little boring, but remember, we didn't have Nintendo and all those hand-held games. Ah, I'm beginning to sound like a grandparent, which I proudly am!

My sons' and my grandsons' generation will have some 'back in my day' stories to tell their grandchildren.
