Paula - We found this campground by luck the first time many years ago. We wouldn't camp any place else in the area now. We tent camped there in May 2004, and we go back at least once a year.

Campground Review

Even though it's only a minute from town (Sulphur, pop 4500) it seems like you are really out in the middle of nowhere. Rock Creek campground is always very clean and well maintained. The sites themselves are very private for the most part, and the scenery is beautiful. The Chickasaw area is full of awesome hiking trails, a Bison watching trail, some rock climbing areas, lots of great river spots to fish or swim, and all sorts of interesting spots to check out. Tent sites are only $8.00 per night, and you can have as many tents as you can fit. The bathrooms are clean and well lit, although there are no showers. There are some down the road at Guy Sandy campground, but I've never stayed there. The best part about the rustic nature of Rock Creek is that it tends to be left to only the rustic loving campers. There are very few RVs, and no hookups that I know of, and they are not allowed to run generators. So if you are looking for a quiet, peaceful getaway within two hours of the Dallas/Ft. Worth area and don't mind roughing it, I would highly recommend Rock Creek. By the way, cell phones do not work there, which is another plus if you ask me.
