John Stanton - We found out about this campground through the state parks Web site, and we tent camped there in January 2004.

Campground Review

The campsites are private and spacious, two qualities that are essential to camping yet very hard to find. Foliage provides the privacy and overhanging oaks provide shade. The beach here is wide and unspoiled, and it is so close that one night we could hear the waves crashing as we lay in our tent. If you like taking pictures, there are plenty of things at which to aim your lens.

And when it comes to location, it doesn't get any better than Anastasia. Though it feels like you're deep in the sticks when you're sitting around the campfire, downtown St. Augustine is less than 10 minutes away. The oldest city in North America, it has beautiful architecture and lots of neat bars and restaurants. Also, the St. Augustine Lighthouse is within walking distance of the park.

My wife and I live in Florida, and we can't imagine a better place in the state to camp. If you haven't been to Florida, camping at Anastasia is the perfect introduction to our state, especially when you consider the low cost of a campsite compared to over $125 per night at many hotels. It's best to come during winter because the weather is comparatively mild, and you don't have to worry about bugs.
