Barry - I found this campground here on the camping site, and I RV camped there in July 2004.

Campground Review

Without a doubt Town Creek Campground is one of the nicest campgrounds we've ever been to. It's far enough out in the country to make it peaceful, yet close enough to either Columbus or West Point for convenience. Town Creek makes for a great place to stay while visiting the many historic plantations in the area. One of the most famous of which, the Waverley Plantation Mansion, is located just across the highway from the campground. We recently made our first visit to Town Creek, and we were impressed with how spacious each campsite is. Not to mention how well-maintained the entire campground is. The Army Corps of Engineers obviously put a lot of thought into the layout of both the sites and facilities when building this campground.

The hosts, who we immediately felt like we'd known forever, suggested a waterfront campsite, which turned out to be perfect. Situated atop a small bluff overlooking the waterway, our site was shady and caught every breeze off of the water. During the day we got an air show, of sorts, courtesy of a nearby Air Force training base, which wasn't as annoying as one might think. In the evenings and at night we enjoyed seeing the barges make their way up and down the waterway. It's almost unbelievable how little noise they make either.

One of the things I really liked was that the parking pads are all concrete. This made leveling our camper a breeze. We found that they keep the bathhouses exceptionally clean, regardless of what time of the day you went into them. This was a major plus, even though the bathhouses could have used a fan inside of them to stir the air around some.
This is also a perfect campground to take bicycles to, and we were glad we took ours. They have a low level of vehicular traffic, but a high number of very nice bicycle and walking trails. The only place we noticed that could use some improvement was the swimming area. It had a very nice sandy beach with showers and a covered picnic area, but the still-water pond looked just a bit too snaky for our tastes. Speaking from our experience, though, Town Creek Campground is a wonderful place to stay.
