Tim - I found out about this campground from a friend, and I RV camped there in December 2004.
Campground Review
Fort De Soto is located south of St Petersburg, Florida, and it is the best campground I have ever been to. It's a fisherman's dream with two fishing piers and campsites that you can drive a boat right to. The campground is buetifully kept, and the restrooms and showers are very clean. It's also a great place for history buffs as Fort De Soto is an old military barracks circa the late 1800s. The fort is still there along with the huge cannons that protected Tampa Bay from enemy ships. The one downside is there are no ground fires. However you my use a portable camp fireplace or one of those Chimaneas as I did. You used to have to show up on the day you wanted to camp for reservations, but you can now book online at their Web site.
