Snubnosed in Alpha - I happened upon this campground while traveling, and I've tent camped here in June or July the past several years.
Campground Review
This is really a review of the Missouri State Park campgrounds in general. We have stayed multiple times at several including Graham Cave, Weston Bend, and Big Lake. Each of our stays has been for a single overnight while in route elsewhere. The Missouri State Park campgrounds are perfect for this. In fact, for just this purpose (as opposed to inherent attractiveness as a vacation destination), I would rate the Missouri State Park campgrounds as the best anywhere. Without exception they have been very clean and attractive. Hosts have been very friendly. All of the parks feature hot showers in the campgrounds, and they are surprisingly affordable (still $10 or less for a basic site). Though we always tent camp, I have noticed that the campgrounds provide very nice RV sites. One drawback: the mosquitoes can become rather fierce at times. Pack some spray. Graham Cave in particular is convenient to I-70 an hour or two west of St. Louis. This park features an interesting formation and archeological site where there is evidence of prehistoric habitation. For an inexpensive but comfortable stay while traveling, you simply cannot go wrong with the Missouri State Park system.
