Robyn - I heard about this campground from a fellow worker, and I tent camped there in August 2005.
Campground Review
Wallow Lake is called the jewel of the Eagle Cap Wilderness. It is simply beautiful. There is so much there for a family to do. All campers including RVers and tenters are welcome. There are lots of bathrooms and showers, also a laundry. There are hiking trails, fishing, boating, you can rent boats at the marina, or go parasailing into the air. There's a tramway to the steep mountains nearby. Cabins and other lodging is also available. There is horseback riding, bumper boats, mini-golf, go karts, fine and casual dining. We liked the pizza there. There's also a country store and gift shops. There's a wonderful view to take pictures. Tame deer walk the park. Be careful they will try to get into your food. They ate our bread. They were wonderful to watch, and we took lots of pictures of them. We had a great time. They also have nightly talks and movies about the history of the area. There's a lot of history about the Nes Perce indians and Chief Joseph.
The town of Joseph is nearby. Lots of bronze sculptures line the main street. It's a post card view of the town with the Eagle Cap mountains nearby. Old Chief Joseph's grave is there to visit. In the town visit are many art galleries and art bronze foundries. In a day trip from Wallowa Lake there is Hell's Canyon, the deepest canyon on Earth, and lots of wild life to see like big horn sheep. The Nes Perce Trail is on the road to Wallowa Lake. There's also an old west museum. There is lots of fun for the entire family. It's open for all seasons. Check it out for the fall. It is wonderful to see the snow on the mountains. We will return.
