camper - I found out about this campground on the DNR Web site, and I tent camped there in July 2006.

Campground Review

The hikes, waterfalls, and proximity to other parks make this a wonderful place to visit. When I was there it rained a whole lot, but that was for the better because the waterfalls were full. The hike under the rain was simply refreshing. I would love to go there again and again and again.

We really enjoyed our weekend here. The campsites were nice (we stayed in the rear wooded area). Not too many mosquitos for Mid June. However, be warned - Poison Ivy is the dominant foliage at Starved Rock! You need to know what this looks like and wear protective clothing. My husband got a pretty good case of it - it was all over our camp site and the beautiful trails. As for the facilities, they could use a couple of more showers, but they seemed relatively new and pretty clean. The porta potties nearer to our campsite were also well kept, but by the end of the weeked were out of tp, so bring your own! Their main problem was the archaic snail mail booking system, but it looks like they may catch up to the last century and allow online booking starting this July (after the fourth).
